Shooting the Messenger

Preface to the Second Edition

Shooting the MessengerWhistleblowers are democracies’ failsafe mechanism. As long as there are individuals who are willing to risk everything to be heard, no government, no corporation, no individual, no one can ever be sure that any attempt at disinformation or withholding information vital to the public interest will succeed. Allan Cutler.

The second edition of Shooting the Messenger is much more than a change from a third person to a first person narrative. Questions and suggestions from readers of the first edition, for which I am grateful, have allowed me to focus on areas of my Whistleblowers Tale that needed additional work making for a more compelling, more inclusive Second Edition.

My eye witness account of the largest known sustained fraud in Canadian history on the public purse by federal public servants is now much easier to follow, as is the attempt by the Department of Foreign Affairs to turn back the clock on language rights.

Another not insignificant improvement; to avoid unnecessary breaks in the timeline, in the second edition any information not directly related to these two seminal events has been relegated to a Further Readings section.
