Getting to Know Allah
30:43 So, set your face towards the true religion, before a Day from Allah comes, which cannot be turned back. On that Day they will be rent asunder.
There is Judgement Day, the aforementioned day yet to come "when they will be rent asunder"; then there are Allah Days, agonizing days of death and destruction in the here-and-now, until the ultimate manifestation of the irrepressible omnipotent sociopath's wrath is visited on an unsuspecting world, signaling the end of times.
A psychiatrist was allegedly asked: "what is the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath?" His response: "a psychopath, if he wishes to kill you, will show up at your door and kill you and anyone with you; a sociopath will not bother showing up, he will simply destroy the neighborhood in which you live." From that perhaps insubstantial definition, Allah does fit the description of a sociopath as does His Messenger whose army did the killing.
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
Allah's Apostle reached Khaibar in the early morning and the people of Khaibar came out with their spades, and when they saw the Prophet they said, "Muhammad and his army!" and returned hurriedly to take refuge in the fort.
The Prophet raised his hands and said, "Allah is Greater! Khaibar is ruined! If we approach a nation, then miserable is the morning of those who are warned."
30:44 Whoever disbelieves, upon him shall recoil his unbelief and whoever does a righteous deed, it is for themselves that they will be preparing a comfortable abode.
30:45 That He may reward those who have believed and done the righteous deeds out of His Bounty. Indeed, He does not love the unbelievers.
30:47 We have, indeed, sent Messengers to their own people before you (Muhammad), and they brought them clear proofs. Then We revenged upon those who sinned, and it was incumbent on Us to give the believers support.
A Litany of Death and Destruction
14:5 We have, indeed, sent Moses with our Signs (sayings): “Bring your people out of the darkness and into the light and remind them of Allah Days (major events or calamities).” Surely in those are signs for every steadfast and thankful person.
As you may have begun to appreciate from reading about prophets from the Bible who, in the Koran, are responsible for the cruel death of countless men, women and children, you don’t mess with Allah’s Messengers.
More revelations about a quick to anger deity and, in this instance, mostly anonymous Messengers who are the justification for His devastating wraths.
43:6 How many a Prophet have We sent unto the ancients?
43:7 But not a Prophet came to them whom they did not mock.
43:8 So We destroyed a people mightier than they in valour; and the example of the ancients was gone.
40:21 Have they not journeyed in the land and seen what was the ultimate fate of those who came before them? Then Allah seized them because of their sins, and against Allah they had no protectors.
40:22 That is because their Messengers used to come to them with the clear proofs, but they disbelieved. So Allah seized them; He is indeed Strong, Terrible in retribution.
23:31 Then, We brought out after them another generation.
23:32 So, We sent them a Messenger of their own, saying: “Worship Allah, you have no other god than Him. Do you not fear [Allah]?”
23:33 Then the dignitaries of his people, who had disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter and whom We accorded ease in the present life, said: “This is, indeed, merely a mortal like you; he eats from what you eat and drinks from what you drink.
23:34 “If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you are surely the losers.
23:35 “Does he promise you that once you die and turn into dust and bones, you will be brought back?
23:36 “Far, far away is what you are promised!
23:37 “There is only this our earthly life; we die and we live, but we shall not be raised from the dead.
23:38 “He is only a man who fabricates lies about Allah and we will not believe in him.”
The familiar unspoken demand from the Messenger that Allah murder every man, woman and child for the “dignitaries” calling him a liar.
23:39 He said: “Lord, support me against their calling me a liar.”
23:40 He (Allah) said: “In a little while they will regret.”
23:41 Then the Cry seized them justly, and so We turned them into scum. Away then with the wrongdoing people!
23:42 Then We raised up after them other generations.
23:43 No nation hastens its term; nor will they put it back.
23:44 Then We sent Our Messengers one after the other. Every time a Messenger came to his nation, they denied him. So We made them succeed one another and reduced them to mere tales. Away with the people who do not believe.
And you know what happened next. For Allah to destroy an entire generation, or a city, it does not matter that within that generation or city, are good, if poor people; if the wealthy people don’t do what they are told, it is death to everyone.
17:16 And when We want to destroy a city, We command those of its people who are given to luxury; but as they transgress therein Our sentence against it is pronounced and We utterly destroy it.
17:17 How many generations We have destroyed since Noah! It suffices that your Lord knows and sees the sins of His Servants.
Yet, Allah claims that He only destroys the wrongdoing people.
6:47 Say: “Tell me! If Allah’s Punishment should seize you suddenly or openly, will any be destroyed other than the wrongdoing people?”
6:48 And We only send forth the Messengers as bearers of good tidings and warners. Those who believe and mend their ways have nothing to fear and have no cause to grieve.
6:49 But those who deny Our Revelations will be punished for having been sinful.
It’s all about being humble.
6:42 We have indeed sent forth [Messengers] to other nations before you and We afflicted them with misery and hardship that perchance they might humble themselves.
6:43 If only they humbled themselves when Our Punishment overtook them; but their hearts were hardened and the Devil made what they were doing seem fair to them.
Happy Days as a harbinger of Allah Days.
6:44 Then, when they forgot what they were reminded of, We opened wide for them the gates of everything [good]; so that as soon as they rejoiced at what they were given, We struck them down suddenly, and they were driven to despair.
6:45 Thus the remnant of the wrongdoing people were rooted out, Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!
He destroys one generation, only to raise another which, in all likelihood, will suffer a similar fate at the hands of a petty, vengeful genocidal deity.
In the Name of Allah,
the Compassionate, the Merciful
6:1 Praise be to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light; yet the unbelievers set up equals to their Lord.
6:2 It is He Who created you from clay, then decreed a term [for you] and another set term with Him, but still you doubt.
6:3 He is Allah in the heavens and on earth. He knows your secrets and public utterances, and He knows what you earn (the good and evil you do).
6:4 And there comes not to them a revelation from Allah, but they turn away from it.
6:5 So, they denied the truth when it came to them; but surely the news of what they were mocking will come to them.
6:6 Do they not see how many generations before them We destroyed, after We had established them in the earth more firmly than We had established you, and how We let loose the sky upon them in torrents, and We made the rivers flow beneath them? Thus we destroyed them because of their sins. And after them We raised another generation.
In the Name of Allah,
the Compassionate, the Merciful
7:1 Alif - Lam - Mim - Sad.
7:2 [This is] a Book revealed to you (Muhammad); let there be no gall in your heart because of it. [It is revealed] so that you may warn with it, and as a reminder to the believers.
7:3 Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other patrons besides Him. How little you heed the warning.
7:4 How many a town We have destroyed; Our might struck them at night or while they were napping.
7:5 Their only assertion when Our Might struck them was to say: “We have indeed been wrongdoers.”
7:94 We did not send forth a Prophet to any city but afflicted its people with distress and suffering, that perchance they might humble themselves.
7:95 Then We changed their adversity into well-being, till they multiplied. They said: “Hardship and prosperity did visit our fathers.” Then, We seized them suddenly, while they were unaware.
7:96 Yet had the people of the cities believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the sky and the earth (rain from the sky, plants from the earth); but they denied [the Prophets], and so We destroyed them on account of their misdeeds.
The saddest thing about Allah Days is that they are pre-ordained, and there is nothing anyone can do to deter them. A town, a city, a civilization could not escape the cruel fate Allah had in store for it, as He explained to His Messenger, who may have wondered why, in his lifetime, God did not obliterate forthwith cities where people enjoyed life instead of humbling themselves before Him, as He had done before.
THE ROCK (THAMUD)
In the Name of Allah,
the Compassionate, the Merciful
15:1 Alif – Lam - Ra. These are the Verses of the Book and a manifest Qur’an.
15:2 Perhaps, those who disbelieve wish they were Muslims.
15:3 Leave them to eat, enjoy themselves and let [false] hopes beguile them; for they will soon know.
15:4 We have never destroyed a town but it had a fixed decree.
15:5 No nation can hasten its term, nor defer it.
Death will not bring any relief for those who had the impudence to deny Allah's Messengers.
35:23 You are only a warner.
35:24 We have sent you forth in truth as a bearer of good news and a warner. There is not a nation to whom a warner has not come and gone.
35:25 If they denounce you as a liar; those before them have also denounced; their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, with scriptures and the illuminating Book.
35:26 Then I seized the unbelievers; how then was My wrath!
35:36 But the unbelievers shall have the Fire of Hell, wherein they will not be finished off and die, nor will its punishment be lightened for them. Thus we will reward every thankless person.
65:8 How many a city transgressed arrogantly the Command of its Lord and His Messengers; and so We brought it to account severely and punished it with an abominable punishment.
65:9 And so it tasted the bane of its deed and the outcome of its deed was perdition.
65:10 Allah has prepared for them a terrible punishment. So fear Allah, O people of understanding who have believed. Allah has sent down to you a reminder,
65:11 A Messenger, reciting to you the Signs of Allah fully clarified; so as to bring those who have believed and done the righteous deeds from the shadows of darkness to light. He who believes in Allah and does the righteous deed, Allah will admit him into Gardens, beneath which rivers flow, dwelling therein forever. Allah has assigned to him a fair provision.
65:12 It is Allah Who created seven heavens and of the earth like thereof. The Decree descends among them all, that you might know that Allah has power over everything and that Allah has encompassed everything in knowledge.
In His would-be uplifting messages for the Prophet Muhammad, who was being accused of spreading lies, that he is in good company, Allah again demonstrates His trademark casual whimsical attitude to the taking of human lives.
22:42 If they denounce you as a liar, then the people of Noah, ’Ad and Thamud have denounced before them;
22:43 And the people of Abraham and the people of Lot, too;
22:44 And the people of Midian. And Moses was denounced. Then I reprieved the unbelievers; then I struck them down. How, then, was my punishment?
22:45 How many a city We destroyed when it was doing wrong; and now it has fallen down upon its turrets; and how many a deserted well, and lofty palace?
22:46 Have they not travelled in the land, so as to acquire hearts to reason with; or ears to hear by? For it is not the eyes which are blind, but the hearts within the breasts.
Like many classical philosophers, including Aristotle, Allah considered the heart the seat of reason, not the head and the brain contained within.
22:47 They ask you to hasten the punishment. Allah will never break His Promise; but a day for your Lord is like a thousand years of what you reckon.
22:48 And how many a city have I reprieved, although it was unjust? Then I struck it down, and unto Me is the ultimate return.
The audacity of a God Who dares to lay claim to being the embodiment of opposites, revelation 16:47.
16:45 Do those who devise evil feel assured that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them up, or that punishment will not overtake them from whence they do not expect?
16:46 Or that He will not seize them in the course of their journeys, when they will not be able to escape?
16:47 Or that He will not seize then while in dread? Surely your Lord is Clement, Merciful.
It is a testament to the human race’s resilience that even after reports of massive pitiless annihilations throughout the Koran of men, women and children in their homes, courtesy of a god who claims to be the epitome of Compassion and Mercy, the earth’s population now surpasses six billion souls with unbelievers outnumbering believers by approximately four to one.
This is not to say that Allah, whose patience and scheming is legendary, will not be in a position to redress this imbalance in a generation or two, or perhaps earlier, and do “Away with the people who do not believe”, once and for all, for “they are, indeed, the companions of the Fire.”
In the Name of Allah,
The Compassionate, the Merciful
40:1 Ha – Mim.
40:2 The sending down of the Book is from Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Knowing.
40:3 The Forgiver of sins, Receiver of repentance, Terrible in retribution, the Bountiful. There is no god but He. Unto Him is the ultimate return.
40:4 No one disputes concerning the Signs of Allah, except the unbelievers; so do not be deceived by their wandering in the lands.
40:5 Before them, the people of Noah and the Confederates after them have denounced, and each nation sallied forth against their Messenger to seize him, and they disputed falsely to repudiate therewith the truth. Then I seized them. How, then, was my retribution?
40:6 And thus your Lord’s Word against the unbelievers was fulfilled, that they are, indeed, the companions of the Fire.
Allah’s Covenant with His Prophets
3:81 And when Allah made His Covenant with the Prophets, [He said]: “I gave you the Book and the Wisdom. Then a Messenger came to you confirming what you already possessed; so you must believe in him and give him support.” He said: “Do you affirm this and accept my covenant on this matter?” They said: “We do affirm it.” He said: “Bear witness and I will be with you one of the witnesses.”
3:82 “Whoever turns his back thereafter; such, are the true sinners.”
Allah's Covenant with His Prophets included His last and greatest Messenger, the one-and-only Prophet Muhammad.
33:7 And [remember] when We took from the Prophets their covenant and from you and from Noah, Abraham and Jesus, son of Mary, too; and We took from them a solemn covenant;
33:8 So as to question the truthful about their truthfulness, and He has prepared for the unbelievers a very painful punishment.
The World Before and After the Messengers
2:213 Mankind was one nation. Then Allah sent forth the Prophets as bearers of good news and warners. He sent with them the Book (the Scriptures) in truth, to judge between people regarding what they differed on. And none differed on it (religion) except those to whom it (the Book) was given after clear proofs had reached them, out of envy for one another. Allah, by His Will, guided those who believe to the truth on which they had differed. Allah guides whom He wills to the Right path.
2:214 Or do you suppose that you will enter Paradise before the example of those who came before you had reached you? They were stricken by privation and affliction and were so shaken that the Messenger and those who believe along with him said: “When is Allah’s support coming?” Surely Allah’s Support is close at hand.
If only …
11:116 If only there had been among generations who preceded you (Muhammad) men possessing understanding and forbidding corruption in the earth, except for a few of them whom We saved! The wrongdoers continued to indulge in what they used to enjoy and, in fact, were wicked sinners.
11:117 And your Lord would not have destroyed the cities unjustly, had their inhabitants been righteous.
11:118 And had your Lord willed, He would have made mankind a single nation; but they will continue to differ among themselves,
42:8 Had Allah wished, He would have made them a single nation, but He admits whom He wishes into His Mercy. Yet, the wrongdoers have no protector or supporter.
42:9 Or have they taken, apart from Him, other protectors? Surely Allah is the Protector and He revives the dead and has power over everything.
11:119 Except for those on whom your Lord has mercy. To that end He created them, and the Word of your Lord has been accomplished: “I will surely fill up Hell with jinn and humans all together.”
11:120 And all We relate to you of the tidings of the Messengers is to strengthen your heart; and you have received in these the truth, admonition and a reminder for the believers.
11:121 And say to the unbelievers: “Continue with what you are doing, and We shall continue with ours.
11:122 "And wait; we too are waiting.”
11:123 To Allah belongs the Unseen in the heavens and on the earth, and to Him the whole affairs shall be referred. So worship Him and put your trust in Him; your Lord is not unaware of the things you do.
Why No Roofs and Stairways of Silver
Another way that Allah split up the one nation, apart from sending Messengers who sowed discord, was to deny people some of His Bounty such as “roofs of silver” and “adornment of gold” so that people would not be deluded into thinking that the here-and-now was a better place than the Hereafter.
In modern vernacular, He was afraid of a single nation of materialists who sought only to live the good life in the here-and-now instead of seeking the good life in the Hereafter. This interpretation is similar to Moududi’s.
43:32 Do they apportion the Mercy of your Lord? It is We Who have apportioned their livelihood among them in the present life and raised some of them in rank above others; so that some would be subservient to the others. Your Lord’s Mercy is better than what they amass.
43:33 And were it not for fear that mankind would be a single nation, We would have assigned to those who disbelieve in the All-Compassionate, roof of silver for their houses and stairways upon which they ascend;
43:34 And portal for their houses and couches upon which they recline;
43:35 And adornment of gold; but all that is nothing but worldly enjoyment. Yet the Hereafter with your Lord is reserved for the God-fearing.
Messengers to the Common People
A little known fact, is that Allah also sent Messengers to the common people, the “common nations” in revelation 62:2. Common nation, al-Ummiyyun in Arabic, Fakhry notes “could also mean the illiterates, or the people of no revealed scripture, as against People of the Book, or Jews and Christians.”
62:1 Everything in the heavens and on the earth glorifies Allah, the King, the Holy One, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
62:2 It is He Who raised up from the common nations a Messenger of their own, reciting to them His Signs, purifying them and teaching them the Book and the wisdom, although they had been in manifest error before that;
62:3 And others from them, who had not joined them yet. He is the All-Mighty, the Wise.
62:4 That is Allah’s Bounty which He imparts to whomever He pleases; and to Allah belongs the Great Bounty.
Allah Days or the Nearer Punishment
32:18 Is he who believes, then, like he who is a sinner? No, they are not equal.
32:19 As for those who believe and do the righteous deeds, they will have gardens of refuge to receive them, for what they used to do.
32:20 But, as for the sinners, their refuge is the Fire. Every time they want to get out of it, they are brought back and it will be said to them: “Taste the punishment of the Fire which you used to deny.”
32:21 We shall surely let them taste the nearer punishment (“those calamities which afflict man in this world” Moududi) prior to the greater punishment, that perchance they might repent.
32:22 Who is more unjust than he who is reminded of Our Signs, then he turns away from them? We will certainly wreck vengeance upon the criminals.
