Islam and the Canadian Experience - 2016

Sombre ceremonies mark 27th anniversary of Montreal Massacre

“On this sombre anniversary, let us reflect on what Canadians — women, men, and youth — can do to rid the country and the planet of the scourges of misogyny and gender-based violence,” Trudeau said.

Globe and Mail, Dec. 06

There is never any mention of the religion of the perpetrator. Better to paint all men and all faiths with the same brush. The fact that the Prophet did not let what he preached about women affect his behavior towards them, except on one reported occasion of which I am aware, is no reason not to acknowledge Islam's influence on the easily confused.

Nov 26 - How Islamists are Smarter Than Andrea Horwath

I have lived with Islamic totalitarianism and religious barbarism in all its forms. Where are those armchair intellectuals and apologists for Islamic barbarism who, in France, compel girls to wall themselves inside a portable prison? Veiling women spreads the vision of an Islamic world.

Chahdortt Djavann

Chahdortt Djavann: "Islamist have mined (as in minefield) the debates"

In a scathing book, the Iranian born essayist lambastes the intellectuals and "useful idiots" who, according to her, are being played.

Novelist and essayist, Chahdortt Djavann left Iran for France in 1993. This inveterate enemy of the veil today launched "How to effectively combat Islamic ideology (Grasset), a book which would show how, on the issues of the veil, "Islamophobia" and terrorism "Islamists have mined the debates and any intellectual and political discourse."

Le Point (my translation), Nov. 26, 2016

Important: The picture of Ontario NDP leader meeting an Hamilton imam last September scarfed and barefoot is not meant to imply that her host is an Islamist, only that Horwath behaves like someone who is being played.

Nov 17 - Developers Helping Believers

A plan to build a new suburb dedicated to Muslims runs counter to Quebec’s values, Premier Philippe Couillard said.

Montréal Gazette Nov.15.2016

Is there anything wrong with developers providing devotees of the one true god with affordable rent-to-own housing which pays lip-service to the Koran's prohibition against paying interest and which limits their contact with those who would corrupt them, Christians in particular, as demanded by the Almighty?

Ask any English-Canadian politician, with the exception of Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch, and they will tell you this is in keeping with Canadian values, nothing to worry about.

Nov 24 - A Consequence of Aggressive Multiculturalism

"Aggressive multiculturalism has wreaked havoc in the West", sociologist Mathieu Bock-Côté told Le Point in an interview.

"The weakening of our great historical and anthropological anchors", he said, "has pushed people to revolt. This is one of the greatest fears of our time, becoming strangers at home."

(My translation)

Justin Trudeau's government has embraced aggressive multiculturalism like no other government before it.

A signature policy, increased immigration to unprecedented levels, seems to be an attempt at fulfilling the father of multiculturalism's – the current Prime Minister's dad – dream of making Canada a country of minorities so as to deny Québec's claim to special status.

Oct 21 - The Hidden Face of Fundamentalism

Bill 62: An Act to foster adherence to State religious neutrality and, in particular, to provide a framework for religious accommodation requests in certain bodies.

Quebec opens another difficult debate over the place of religion and minorities in the province with hearings Tuesday into a proposed law that would ban veiled women from receiving government services.

Globe and Mail, October 18, 2016

Lepage: But what is the link between the wearing of religious apparel and the fundamentalists?

Houda-Pepin: For the fundamentalists, a woman must not be seen in public, right. If, by chance or by necessity a woman must go out in public, she must be invisible. She must, when going out [in public], wear her prison and that way we don't see her figure, we don't see her beautiful face or her hair because it's [sexually] seductive and so on and so forth … This means that the public space is not for these women …

It is a segregation [of the sexes] that is done in the public space. We in Québec and in Canada went to the United Nations to denounce apartheid regimes, segregation based on race was unacceptable and I would not accept segregation based on sex because that is what it means, the chadors, the burqas and all these imported ways of dressing which are meant, in the name of freedom of religion, to impose values that are alien and from another century.

Freedom of religion, for me, leaves some things to be desired. We will eventually have to confront this reality.

I believe that the state's neutrality in religious matters is our best guarantee of freedom of conscience and religion which is why it is so important to define limits and what those limits mean and write it in the [Canadian] Charter of Rights so that it applies equally to all.

Why our politicians lie about immigration.

A cautionary tale:

When your white children first came into this country, they did not come shouting the war cry and seeking to wrest this land from us. They told us they came as friends to smoke the pipe of peace; they sought our friendship, we became brothers. Their enemies were ours. At the time we were strong and powerful, while they were few and weak. But did we oppress them or wrong them? No! Time wore on and you have become a great people, whilst we have melted away like snow beneath an April sun; our strength is wasted our warriors dead.

Aug 28 - The Hijab and the RCMP

If you’re wearing a hijab, be wary of RCMP recruitment drive ... More than 400 women are involved in a lawsuit against the RCMP for allegedly ignoring rampant sexual harassment.

Shireen Ahmed Special to the Globe and Mail, Aug 26

For the Prophet and his out-of-this-world Patron, the sight of a single strand of a woman’s hair could cause a man to experience a Pavlovian-like reaction, an uncontrollable urge to hump the owner of the stray curl then and there, which is why He sent the surah al-Hijab i.e. An–Nûr (the Light).

An argument could be made that the veil was meant to conceal a woman's identity when answering the call of nature in nature – for privacy, not piety.

Hijab wearing women may be just what the doctor ordered for the allegedly easily aroused male officers of the RCMP.

It is unlikely, however, that the true believer will answer the call of the RCMP, unless it is for ulterior motives, considering Allah's injunction about associating with unbelievers, let alone co-operating with them, even if arresting them might be acceptable.

Good luck to the RCMP who have, unfortunately, shown themselves somewhat lacking in understanding of what it means to be a believer (see previous entry).

Aug 20 - Moderates as Adversaries

In looking to stem the tide of radicalization at home, Western countries must inevitably look to the Muslim community for their miracle workers; non-Muslims, Christians in particular, being mostly clueless or notoriously misinformed about Islamic scriptures.

In any event, why would young men determined on doing God's dirty work listen to perverts.

Moderation means different things to different people as Canada's vaunted police force discovered when it gave its support, then distanced itself from the final product of the Islamic Social Services Association and the National Council of Canadian Muslims.

The RCMP has pulled its support from a handbook aimed at stopping young Canadians from being recruited by extremist groups, saying parts of the booklet have an "adversarial tone."

The police force is listed as a contributor in the handbook, titled United Against Terrorism.

CBC Sept 30, 2014

Based on the RCMP's experience, transparency must be the watchword at The Office of Community Outreach and Counter-radicalization; an open-book policy which includes keeping and making available to the general public transcripts of conversations with prospective holy warriors aimed at dissuading them from their career choice.

May 14 - A Worrying Increase in Self-Inflicted Discrimination

A regular contributor to the Globe and Mail on issues confronting Muslims in Canada in "For Muslim women in Canada, a sense of vulnerability", is again accusing Canadians of Islamophobia based on the recent Environics survey.

The survey, for which Sheema Khan served as a consultant, does point to an increase in discrimination against Muslim women.

If there is an actual increase in inequitable treatment based on a poll of believing women, it is, in my opinion, largely self-inflicted.

More than half (53%) of Muslim women surveyed say they wear a hijab, chador or niqab in public, with this proportion up from 42% in 2006.

Could this supposed increase in discrimination have anything to do with an increase in an unwillingness to blend in by insisting on flaunting their religious beliefs in keeping with Tariq Ramadan's exhortation to Muslim women to invade the public space dressed in traditional Islamic garbs as a way of promoting Islam everywhere?

The same can be said for difficulties finding a job. A Muslim friend of mine who runs a small Persian carpet repair business hired a young Chador-wearing Muslim woman as a receptionist.

All was well until she found out that one of his part-time employees had once been a stripper. She insisted he fire her or she would quit. She quit.

Traditional Islamic dress advertises a certain rigidity of belief e.g. homosexuals which may not make them the ideal candidate for certain jobs, particularly the many which require an open tolerant mind.

Almost half of believers polled, 43%, agreed with the statement: 'Homosexuality SHOULD NOT be accepted by society'."

Like I said, if there is discrimination, it is largely self-inflicted.

May 13 - What does a mosque have to do with a free full-contact lap dance as a palliative for the displaced patrons of a strip club in Fort Mac?

Fire evacuees from Fort McMurray have been offered meals, clothing, places to stay and now an unusual gift — a free lap dance.

An Edmonton strip club is waiving its $9 entry fee and offering one $30 lap dance to any customers from the evacuated city in northern Alberta. As demonstrated in the days since the fire, the oilsands capital is home to many families.

But Chris Round, manager of a company that manages five strip clubs in Alberta including one in Fort McMurray, acknowledges the city also has a reputation as a party place for oil workers making loads of money and spending it in bars on their days off.

“Fort McMurray has been very good to our industry and to our business, that’s for sure,” Round said Wednesday

The Canadian Press, Edmonton Journal, May 11, 2016

A free full-contact lap dance as a palliative for the displaced patrons of a strip club. Those poor men! This is so tacky and somehow makes my donation of money feel dirty. So let me be tacky in return.

What about the women, some work in the tar sands and others at home supporting a husband and family. Are they not also deserving of being aroused by a naked stranger through mutual stroking, here there and everywhere, unless a thirty dollar dance in Alberta does not get you what it gets you over here?

It's not that I did not enjoy, in the days, some dirty dancing now and then, but indecency too has its limits.

Fort Mac obviously needs that big new mosque.

Like modern means of killing people, which technically are not allowed because of the Prophet's damning of innovation, strip clubs have and undoubtedly continue to be used in Allah's Cause. For example, to stiffen the resolve of some of the 9/11 terrorists, their leader Muhammad Atta took them to a strip club to show them what they could expect in Paradise the next day.

One area of Paradise could definitely be compared to a strip club setting. From A Man's Paradise:

37:43 In the Gardens of Bliss;

37:44 Upon couches, facing each other.

37:45 A cup of pure spring water shall be passed around them;

37:46 Snow-white, a delight to drinkers. 37:47 Wherein there is no gall and they are not intoxicated by it.

37:48 And they also shall have wide-eyed maidens averting their gaze.

37:49 They resemble hidden pearls.

April 28 - Lies and Life and Death Decisions

Canada does not and will not pay ransom to terrorists, directly or indirectly.

Justin Trudeau

The key word here is "indirectly". A word which I don't remember Harper using when he said Canada did not pay a ransom for the release of Robert Fowler and Louis Guay.

It is not that I begrudge the extra-ordinary efforts it put into getting them released from al-Qaeda in the Maghreb, for diplomats live and travel to dangerous places because of their jobs; but al-Qaeda does not usually free hostages without getting something substantial in return, especially if it will weaken the brand.

If it did get something for Mr. Fowler and Mr. Guay, courtesy of the Canadian government, this would have been known among al-Qaeda affiliates around the world and may have emboldened the Philippine branch to think it could get something for John Ridsdel.

One week ago, the Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School on Baribeau Street in Vanier was the scene of a police investigation after vandals spray-painted racial epithets on its walls. Ottawa Citizen, April 18

Graffiti on Islamic school a hate crime, police say. Ottawa Citizen, April 11

The writing on the wall had nothing to do with race. Islam is not a race but a religion! It was an act of vandalism, and should be treated as such, unless Ottawa police now consider expressing your revulsion at suicide-bombers and Islamic State a crime. Sprayed on the wall was 'Die Bombers' and 'ISIS Go Home'". More reasons to be leery of hate legislation.

The graffiti also reflects the ignorance of the culprits. Suicide bombers are predominantly Sunnis and Islamic State is a Sunni State. Ahlul-Bayt is a Shiite school

6:121 And do not eat from that over which the Name of Allah has not been mentioned; it is indeed sinful. The devils shall insinuate to their followers to dispute with you; but if you obey them, then you will surely be polytheists.

At the behest of community leaders concerned with fraudulent labelling of halal food, on April 4, 2016, the federal government agency responsible for food safety took on the additional responsibility of ensuring that believers will not risk going to Hell for eating food over which the name of Allah was not mentioned, and that meat meant for the tables of those who Submit to His Will comes from animals butchered as demonstrated by His Messenger:

... The Prophet slaughtered seven Budn (camel) with his own hands while the camels were standing. He also sacrificed two horned rams (black and white in color) at Medina.

Bukhari 26.772

US Secretary of State John Kerry announced today that the United Sates has "determined that the Islamic State group is committing genocide against Christians and other minorities in Iraq and Syria. In a prepared statement he added that Islamic State is "genocidal by self-proclamation, by ideology and by actions".

Trudeau, before the election, said it was "disgusting" of the Conservative government to discriminate in favour of people most likely to be killed by Islamic State e.g. Christians in their Syrian refugee selection process.

It was not disgusting, it was the right thing to do, as the findings of genocide have confirmed.

On Thursday, February 25, Ottawa City Hall hosted Ottawa Hijab Day, a day where non-Muslim women were invited to try on the controversial scarf in "solidarity with their sisters".

Many women consider the head covering scarf, which leaves not a hair uncovered lest it provoke a Pavlovian-like arousal in males, a sign of oppression imposed by a prudish, misogynous man. For others, it is a sign of modesty demanded by a god. No goddesses, to my knowledge, has gone on record saying that it is anything of the kind.

Feb 20 - 1984 Redux

On February 18, Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion used the term Daesh during a question and answer session before the Canadian Senate instead of the more familiar and evocative Islamic State has had been the practice of the previous government.

The Minister's use of Daesh to refer to the terrorist state is not quite 1984 doublespeak, but the intent is the same. It is an attempt to obscure rather than to elucidate, to separate the actions from the ideology.

Unlike Dion, and the government of which he is part, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is not into obfuscation; that would be unIslamic (sic):

Islam was never a religion of peace. Islam is the religion of fighting. No-one should believe that the war that we are waging is the war of the Islamic State. It is the war of all Muslims, but the Islamic State is spearheading it. It is the war of Muslims against infidels. There is no excuse for any Muslim not to migrate to the Islamic State ... joining is a duty on every Muslim. We are calling on you either to join or carry weapons [fight] wherever you are.

Godwin's law is about an unwarranted comparison to Nazis or Hitler during a discussion. The main association here is with Chamberlain. Jan 19 - Syrian Refugees

Large families are a problem when you're not prepared!

Our ignorance of Islamic laws and traditions is astounding. Take for instance the observation reported to the Globe and Mail about an official in British Columbia being surprised by "the large size of the families and that fact was making it difficult to place them."

It may not be against the Sharia i.e. God's Law for a husband to use a prophylactic if he has a good reason for wanting to avoid inseminating a wife and interfering with God's immutable right to schedule a pregnancy. It is Allah who makes babies, He says so in his Koran. You may not deny Him this right including males by having a vasectomy or women a tubal ligation. The pill, of course, is out of the question.

All schools of Islamic jurisprudence are against coitus interruptus as a means of interfering with a pregnancy because of something the Prophet said (a saying of the Prophet, if it does not contradict the Koran, is an unassailable legal precedent under Islamic Law) about not withdrawing before ejaculating when raping the daughters and wives of the husbands and fathers you have slain.

Jan 15 - Teach Your Children Well

Understanding the Latest Charlie Hebdo Outrage

Cartoon of dead Syrian toddler in controversial French newspaper draws outrage - Canadian Press, Jan. 14, 2016

I agree, it is a horrible way to make a point, but we have not in Canada yet experienced on a worrisome scale, as far as we know, what happens when parents of children of immigrants insist that in their new home, they must be raised and educated as if they were back in the "old county".

What happens is what Samira Bellil wrote about in "Dans l’enfer des tournantes." In the hell of the gang-rapes (my translation). When she died at the aged 31 from stomach cancer, the Guardian noted her passing this way:

Courageous writer who forced France to confront the outrage of gang rape ... Thanks to her book and her activism, the French government and the mayor's office in Paris began researching the problem of violence against young banlieue (suburb) women, and her portrait was hung outside the French national assembly.

Her publisher did not blame the mostly young men, but pointed the finger at the way they were brought up (my translation):

… [young Muslim men] are caught in a contradiction between the inflexible demands of their cultural origins (religious fundamentalism, seclusion of women, polygamy…) and a cultural environment filled with erotic images. Flirting is not allowed, nor is friendship between boys and girls thereby heightening the sexual tension. The only sexual education available to these young people is from pornographic films, they have no other representation of what constitute a romantic relationship. These young people have no barometer and no appreciation of the gravity of their actions.

For them "la tournante" is just a game and the girls the objects [of that game]. The girls who are raped become in the eyes of boys and the community "des filles a cave" [basement girls, most of the rapes occur in basements] to whom you can do anything. The violence for these girls is not only physical … they also have to confront the moral violence of a loss reputation, the shame, the humiliation and the fear of reprisals should they complain [to the authorities]

Jan 14 - How Canadian Jewry is paving the way for Islam.

Jews in France ask: Is wearing the skullcap a risk or a religious right? The Associated Press, Jan 14, 2016

The best protection for minority religious groups is to support laws like the French have been implementing that limit religious intrusions into the public space including prohibitions against garments that are really advertisement for your religion and which invite retaliation in kind, or worse, as the Jews of Marseille have discovered.

In Canada, religion, Islam in particular, is slowly and inexorably invading the public space, in part, because Jewish organizations like the Canadian Jewish Congress have gone to court to insist that religious rights, as enshrined in our Charter, trump secular rights and have been winning; all to allow the small Canadian Hasidic communities to live outside the Canadian mainstream.

In the end, they are facilitating religious domination of the secular, for Islam is getting the same concessions, and they have the numbers and the will to make a real difference.

Considering the clear and present danger that religion represents for the fragile exception, that our foreign service becomes more aware of the threat and how to counter it is not a bad idea.

The question remains, however, will more religious freedom, the reason for the office headed by Ambassador Bennet, improve or worsen an already bad situation?

"Only religion," to quote Nobel Laureate Steven Weinberg "can make good people do bad things." If that is the case, more is definitely not better.

Jan 3 - Orthodoxy and What You Wear

But for the Liberal victory, Canadians might now be engaged in a volatile debate on niqab bans... Ottawa Citizen, Jan 2, 2016

And that is unfortunate. As mentioned in Immigration as an Existential Challenge, there is a very common ceremony practiced throughout much of the Muslim world called Khatmi-Qur’an. It is the ceremony to recognize and celebrate a child’s first full reading of the Koranic text in Arabic at about seven years old. It is the mother's responsibility to get her children to the Khatmi-Qur’an.

How a mother chooses to appear in public e.g. a tent-like voluminous black garment with or without the niqab is usually a good indication of the type of Koranic education her children will receive: radical education = radical offsprings.

A niqab wearing mother is more likely to tell her children that when Allah demands that you "kill them wherever you find them", revelation 4:89, He means it!
