As Zelensky waxes, Trump wanes... That is no mere coincidence More than the manifest wickedness of the Russian invasion, however, it was the heroism of the Ukrainians in defence of their homeland that has inspired the democracies to look within themselves: to recall how hard-won was their own democracy, how easily it may be lost, and how essential it is that it be defended, whatever the costs. Andrew Coyne The Globe and Mail, Dec 23, 2022

Winston Churchill, after the end of the Second World War (when it still had no official name), was asked what they should call the war that had just cost more than 30 million lives. He said “the unnecessary war.” If the democracies had stood steadfast in the face of Hitler’s demands instead of rewarding aggressive behaviour, there would have been no World War 2. Zelensky may be saving us from a World War 3.

Who will stand up to another form of aggressive behavior that has holocaust written all over it?

Iran Uses Rape to Enforce Women’s Modesty New York Times Dec 18, 2022

And just like when they released Abbas from jail, the Ayatollahs want the protesting girls to know what is going to happen to them in prison, the reason for allowing a young woman to be taken to hospital "shaking violently, head shaven, her rectum hemorrhaging. The woman is now back in prison [another example] a 14-year-old girl from a poor neighborhood in Tehran who protested by taking off her head scarf at school. The girl, Masooumeh, was identified by school cameras and detained; soon afterward, she was taken to the hospital to be treated for severe vaginal tears. The girl died and her mother, after initially saying she wanted to go public, has disappeared."

The rape of women in captivity is a tradition that goes back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad. He approved of the practice, asking only that his rapists not withdraw before ejaculation. The god for whom he spoke even admonished holy warriors who showed a reluctance to rape wives in front of their husband.

Sex and the Booty

Soccer is truly the beautiful game, unless you are a French Muslim woman who wears a hijab... According to a decree by the French Football Federation (FFF), anyone playing, coaching or officiating on a French football pitch is banned from wearing religious symbols. Sheema Khan, Globe and Mail, Dec 5, 2022

A little history about the hijab might be in order. It was never intended to be a religious symbol. The hijab, as we know it, has its origin in Medina during the time of Muhammad when women had to answer the call of nature next to men in a public space; an open-air latrine, so to speak, where the sexes were separated by a low wall. God's spokesman mandated the head covering so that tall women, like his wife Sawda, could do their business without being interrupted by catcalls because the wall was not high enough to obscure their identity when squatting. That it is has morphed into a symbol of modesty and piety when women are no longer having to answer the call of nature in nature is even more extraordinary considering that during the Assyrian empire when, I believe, the head covering veil was first made mandatory, it was for prostitutes only so that they could be easily identified.

All about the veil.

Indonesia set to punish sex before marriage with jail time [up to a year] The law, if passed, would apply to Indonesian citizens and foreigners alike. Punishment for adultery can only take effect if there are parties who lodge complaints to the authorities. BBC Dec 3, 2022.

Like many other revealed truths, i.e., immutable facts revealed to a mortal by a god on other subjects God's revelations about illegal intercourse changed over time. In His first revelation on the subject He decrees that the adulteress should be confined to her home until He “opens another way,” Revelation 4:15. After obviously giving it some more thought, God’s other way is for both men and women who commit illegal intercourse to be publically whipped “a hundred lashes," Revelation 24:2. And still latter, in what is referred to as the Lost Verse since it does not appear in the Koran, God seems to have reconsidered both His earlier pronouncements and now only stoning will do.

Pope Francis calls Chechens and Buryats ‘the cruelest’ Russian troops fighting in Ukraine, CNN Nov 30, 2022

Chechens, from an early age, are regularly exposed to examples of pitiless cruelty. That could explain their sadism, but perhaps not the Buryats' whose religious beliefs are "an intricate combination of shamanic and Buddhist traits."Wiki

Shocked Iranian Medics leak stories of protestors raped in detention. CNN Nov 21, 20222

When some of Muhammad's holy warriors showed a reluctance to rape captive married women, they were scowled by the God for whom they were fighting. Sexually assaulting females captives was, and is what holy warriors do as a matter of course. That Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, modern-day holy warriors as are ISIS fighters, should do the same should not come as a surprise. It is what is expected of them by both God and those who rule in His name, e. g., Ayatollah Khamenei.

Who’s to blame for World Cup 2022? David Beckham It’s hard to imagine anyone less suited to doing a Bourdain-esque travel show.... So here’s Beckham, looking badly out of place in high-waisted trousers and a full body sock of tattoos, sifting cumin alongside a Qatari chef. Cathal Kelly, Doha, Qatar, Nov 19, 2022.

A female chef entertaining a male celebrity. Bless the Qataris, they have come a long way no matter what. I'll bet she can sit with those she cooks for; men and women. When Bourdain did a show in Libya, they would not let a woman, a Canadian doctor no less, sit at the adult table.

No alcoholic beer sales in World Cup stadiums: FIFA Reuters, Nov 18, 2022

If Qatar had wanted to respect everyone's beliefs, which is a condition for hosting the World Cup, they could have done what Kuwait did, and may still do, and that is issue what my friend Abbas (a.k.a. From Merchant to Messenger – The Prophet Muhammad's struggle for legitimacy as revealed in the Koran available on Amazon. Boreal Books, Nov 12, 2022

You may actually develop a grudging admiration for what the protagonist of From Merchant to Messenger accomplished without any assistance from an all-talk omnipotent deity Who would not lift a finger to help establish his credentials as His spokesman.

While on the subject of The Prophet; to the beautiful Arab-Canadian young woman who found the time to talk with me when I was most in need of another voice inside my head following my wife's passing, and whom I upset with my portrayal of Muhammad in Remembering Uzza. I’m sorry. He was a complicated man.

Somalia Mogadishu bombings: Twin blasts kill 100 in capitalBBC Oct 30, 2022

Sex in Paradise is a semenless experience. This alone should be a deal-breaker for most young men contemplating mass murder through self-immolation to get first crack at Allah's manufactured female facsimiles. And, there is only so many things you are allowed to do with these predictable, soulless automatons programmed by a celibate, old-fashioned god for whom good sex is assembly line, secretionless vaginal intercourse with former grateful wives and physically uniformed artificial spouses with regenerative hymens.

If via Love, Sex and Islam I am able to convince believers contemplating martyrdom not to be in such a hurry to get at those houris only to be disappointed, then the more than twenty years I have dedicated to the study of the world's fastest growing religion will not have been in vain.

Two Canadian women return from Islamic State detention camp in Syria, one faces terrorism charges... More than 20 detained women and children, plus a handful of men, have filed a case in Federal Court, set to be heard in early December, challenging the government’s refusal to bring them home. Globe and Mail, Oct 27, 2022

If the French experience is any guide, we should bring them all back at little or no risk to the general population. The horrific violence experienced by many returning French jihadists has done what deradicalization programs, which author David Thomson calls "a joke", could not do: transform holy warriors into pacifists.

You could easily test those you fear have not been changed by the experience.

A New Jersey teacher accused of removing a student’s hijab sues Olympic fencer and others. AA New Jersey elementary school teacher is suing Olympic medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad for viral social media posts made last year accusing her of forcibly removing a student’s hijab, a headscarf worn by some Muslim women and girls.

The suit also accuses the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the country’s largest Muslim civil rights group of amplifying the matter through multiple calls for Herman’s termination, which were never retracted or withdrawn, and says the group was “motivated by a combination of greed and a fierce desire to burnish their brands as fighters against Islamophobia.”

CNN Oct 24, 2022

And what did the teacher do to warrant CAIR’s vociferous intervention on the side of the fencer and her hearsay accusation?

She thought the [second grade] student’s hijab was a hood over her normally close-fitting hijab and only gently brushed it back from covering the student’s eyes. Once she realized the garment was a hijab, her lawsuit states she quickly apologized and “restored the hood to its original position immediately.”

Lesson for today:

Be careful about mistaking a hoody for a hijab; it could land you into a heap of trouble with activists who will accuse you of being an Islamophobe in the pursuit of an agenda that leaves no room for fairness or common sense.

Islamophobia: an accusation for any occasion.

Ukraine war: US says Iranian drones breach sanctions... Iran denies supplying them to Russia BBC Oct 18, 2022

The Koran recommends lying if it will advance Allah’s Cause: a world ruled by the Sharia (God’s Law as revealed in the Koran and elaborated upon in the sayings and actions of Muhammad). The example God gives is of a man who should not join an impending battle, and, depending on the outcome, he is told what to say. I fail to see how Iran lying about providing the Russian oppressor with drones benefits God’s Cause in any way.

Iran’s supreme leader breaks silence on protests, blames U.S... Meanwhile, Sharif University of Technology in Tehran announced that only doctoral students would be allowed on campus until further notice following hours of turmoil Sunday. The student association said plainclothes officers surrounded the school from all sides as protests roiled the campus after nightfall and detained at least 300 students. Globe and Mail, Oct 3, 2022

My friend Abbas, aka Sohrab, was detained when Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi was in charge of putting down unrest under Khomeini. He was one of hundreds of young people, mostly students, who had been corralled at a protest and herded into a large room at a nearby detention facility. He remembers it as one of the the worst nights of his life.

Two Iranians sentenced to death, including LGBTQ activist... for “corruption on earth.” CNN Sept 7, 2022

Like journalist Rouhollah Zam, both will be hanged.

Dissident Iranian journalist Rouhollah Zam was hanged in Iran on Saturday morning, according to state television IRIB.

Zam was found guilty of "corruption on earth," a charge that does not specify a crime but is sometimes used by the Iranian government for alleged attempts to overthrow it.

Zam ran the online opposition news site Amad News.

CNN, December 12, 2020

God suggests both a harsher and a lesser punishment for those found guilty of “corruption on earth,” i.e., "corrupting the land."

5:33 Indeed, the punishment of those who fight Allah and His Messenger and go around corrupting the land is to be killed, crucified, have their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or to be banished from the land. That is a disgrace for them in this life, and in the life to come theirs will be a terrible punishment

Anyone who challenges those who rule in Allah's name such as the Ayatollahs, or who would try to make things better, so-called Reformers, are guilty of "corrupting the land."

Muslim homebuyers flock to halal financing options as new companies emerge to serve market Globe and Mail, Sept 18, 2022

Somali-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali, ex-Muslim, former member of the Dutch parliament, friend and collaborator of the regretted Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, author of Infidel and The Caged Virgin argues that if the West is to have a chance of defeating Islamic fundamentalism it must outlaw madrassas. I don’t necessarily agree.

It is not madrassas that are the problem (Erdogan’s education notwithstanding), but the book that is at the core of a madrassa’s curriculum. It is a book that should not be taught to children until they are old enough to think for themselves.

Author Salman Rushdie attacked, stabbed on lecture stage in New York, The Associated Press, August 12, 2022

Assassination of critics. e.g., Charlie Hebdo even when criticism was not intended, as was the case with Rushdie and his book The Satanic Verses, have been a fixture of Islam from the beginning.

Islamic veil: Why fewer women in North Africa are wearing it Young Moroccan women have spoken to local media about the social pressure, even harassment, they have to endure when they take off the hijab. But that has apparently not deterred them... Merely criticising the hijab in Western democracies has also become almost synonymous with "Islamophobia" or attacks on minority rights. But in Muslim-majority societies it [criticising the hijab] is still regarded as part of a legitimate campaign for the liberation of women from stifling tradition. BBC, July 19, 2022

The Hajj is back and Saudi Arabia is hoping to cash in CNN July 6, 2022

This year, the kingdom authorized one million Muslims to perform the Hajj. Next year it will be back to pre-pandemic level of 2,000,000+. The once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage that every able-bodied Muslim must perform or face burning in Hell for an eternity is the primary reason why the vast majority God-fearing believers, through no fault of their own, will miss out on Paradise.

India state on alert after Prophet Muhammad row beheading. The victim, a tailor named Kanhaiya Lal, was killed in Udaipur district on Tuesday by two Muslim men, who filmed the act and posted it online. They claimed the act was in retaliation for the victim's support for controversial remarks made by a politician on the Prophet Muhammad. BBC June 29, 2022

Why the tailor had to to die:

The controversy began with comments made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokeswoman Nupur Sharma on the TV station Times Now on May 27. Sharma was commenting on the Gyanvapi mosque controversy. The mosque in northeast India was built on the site of an earlier Hindu shrine. Some Islamists have reportedly claimed that there actually was no shrine at the site.

During the TV segment, Sharma rhetorically asked if she should "mock" some parts of the Muslim holy book, the Quran. She specifically mentioned "flying horses," a likely reference to the buraq creature. She also brought up the Prophet Muhammad's marriage to Aisha, describing her as 9 years old at the time the marriage was consummated, according to local media.

After Sharma’s comments, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s spokesman for the Delhi region Naveen Kumar Jindal accused Muhammad of rape in a tweet.

Al-Monitor, Explainer: India BJP Party spokesperson's comments on prophet spark backlash, June 6, 2022

Al-Burak is the winged horse that Muhammad rode to Paradise for a meeting with God during which the five daily prayers were negotiated. This is an article of faith. It should not have caused offence. The same for Aisha’s marriage; details of which Islam would like to keep under wraps, which the Western media has been more than happy to oblige, refusing to report on what was said and whether it was factual.

What Aisha and others had to say about the blessed event!

What about the rape accusation? In Love, Sex and Islam I speculate as to how it all went down in reminiscing about Jasmine. You be the judge.

Sharma also "specifically mentioned" that, in the Koran, the Earth is flat. The less said about that the better.

Supreme Court further erodes separation between church and state in case of praying football coach… The court said coach Joe Kennedy’s prayers amounted to private speech, protected by the First Amendment, and could not be restricted by the school district. The decision lowers the bar between church and state in an opinion that will allow more religious expression in public spaces. CNN June 27, 2022

Islam is the big winner from this Supreme Court decision which further blurs the line between Church and State. Islam is all about the public demonstration of your faith, starting with the five daily prayers (Sunni) that must be performed at a specific time no matter where you are being the most conspicuous. It all begins with the call to prayer which this decision will make impossible to deny. Islam, with its unabashed, in your space (not a typo), proselytizing will have the Christian’s lunch, and the law will be on their side.

Mark Lilla, professor of the humanities at Columbia University is wrong; it is not Muslims who will be responsible for the demise of the fragile exception, but Christians.

Abortion bans trample on the religious freedom of Muslims, too. There is not just one sharia rule on abortion. There are many. As Islamic law expert Abed Awad and Imam Omar Suleiman have pointed out, different Islamic schools of thought have different rules on whether and when one can have an abortion. Among them are: abortion is permissible through the first 120 days of pregnancy... an exception exists in every Islamic legal school (if the life or health of the mother is at risk,) regardless of the timing. Asifa Quraishi-Landes, San Francisco Chronicle June 23, 2022

The school that allows abortions "through the first 120 days of pregnancy" is the Hanafi. It has the most adherents, an estimated one third of Muslims worldwide. The Maliki, the second largest of the four mainstream schools of Islamic jurisprudence with an estimated 25% following, does not permit abortion at any stage after fertilization, except if the mother's life is at risk.

Shia Iran allows abortion "before 16 weeks of gestation under limited circumstances, including medical conditions related to fetal and maternal health." National Library of Medicine

The Koran has nothing to say about aborting a fetus. Schools of Islamic Law that allow abortion after fertilization, such as the 120 days quoted, rely on what the Prophet said about when a fetus is ensouled.

There might be some wiggle room for some countries where the Koran is the guide as the Book has nothing to say about female same-sex relationships, and when it comes to condemning illicit sex it is always full blown intercourse.

And in the hadiths where Muhammad orders a man to be stoned for illegal intercourse he goes to great lengths to confirm that there was actual penetration.
